Probability

What She Wore: Khaki capris; green, long-sleeve shirt; brown, leather boots.

We’re teaching probability in class.  Right now we’re focusing on the big concepts: 100% means it will definitely happen, 0% means it’s impossible, everything in between represents degrees of maybe.  After spending some time reinforcing these ideas, one of the students had a question:

If that’s true, then why do the women on Maury say they’re 100% sure the guy is the daddy, and he’s not the daddy?

What’s the probability every kid in the class knew exactly what she was talking about?

In one summer I had a baby who was hospitalized for five weeks, quit my job, and moved back to my hometown. This blog is about starting over.

    You are so funny.

Corning (or Tic Tac\’ing as we called it) is when in the Fall you take field corn ( it is hard and dried) and strip it off of the cob and then at night you run around the neighborhood and throw it at house windows and scare people.  This usually happens around Halloween.

Hickory Grille is a local resturant here and it is sooooo good.  Sorta like an upper-scale Applebees.

Chickens are specifically mentioned in the Bible, but it does say that God made all the animals.  So I just figure that the animals came first not the eggs.

    Well, that would be 100%.
    :o)

Wow – so sad how much these kids know these days – I look at my own children and panic a bit – they know more than i did at their age – funny enough – my son is much more innocent than my daughter about street stuff and life, birds and bees etc.  Yeah, she\’s older, but at the same age she was "wiser" and i don\’t mean wisdom.  They grow up so fast.  ttfn ~ tressie

It\’s 3:55am, I should be in bed and you have me dying of laughter.  Your kids are so funny!  Oh, I asked you a question in two blog entries ago, but I am not sure whether you saw it.  Tell me what you think.

  5. Gina says:

HAHA! Leave it to Maury to throw a wrench in probability! And the answer to the kid\’s questions was…

  6. Sarah says:

That\’s great! Too funny. Leave it to a kid to bring up Maury in class.

  7. Nadine says:

Any way you can teach them, go for it!!! It helps to put things on a level that they can understand sad though it be!

  8. Unknown says:

    LOL!!  Wow….Have a good day!God bless 🙂

  9. Tracy says:

Ha! Too funny!!  Well at least the kids are trying to relate it to "real life" stuff! (if the people on Maury can be considered real life!)

By the way thanks for the email and congrats on the news.  Now you can start buying things in the right color 🙂

  10. Antonella says:

OMG!!! Congrats!!! I know it doesn\’t matter, but finding out just makes it all real. It\’s not an "it" inside of you anymore.
If you do decide to breastfeed, just make sure you do your homework. Find out as much as you can, because it\’s really helpful to be well informed. It\’s not easy, but it\’s not rocket science either. You should just be prepared for anything! And, if you can take a class, take it. Hope you don\’t mind, I\’m not trying to tell you what to do or anything. I know how annoying that is!! And of course if you even need anything, you can always ask!!
    Congrats again!
    HUGS,
    Antonella
PS- I noticed that on Maury too! The worst part is, they\’re 100% sure it\’s one man, and then when it\’s not, they\’re 100% sure it\’s the next and so on and so on.

  11. Becca says:

Too funny that kids would pick that show!

    Hugs,
    Becca

  12. Aimee says:

that is so true…i would think most people would be 100% sure who the daddy of their kids are….
:o) smiles easy to give away they are free… :o) very contagious… :o) so pass one to anyone … :o) to people that you love… :o) and even to those you don\’t… :o) in no time the whole world will be smiling :o)

  13. c says:

Wow. They may all know that, but I had to click on your link to find out what Maury is.

  14. g says:

Yup, that would be 100%!  Or certain.  Likey….!

I see a couple of refernecse to baby gender and I am jealous cause I don\’t know!  I see a reference to nursing the baby.  If there is a La Leche league in your area, they could be an awesome resource.  I nursed all my children.  It is not because I was so wonderful, but because I was lazy.  It is much easier than getting up out of bed at 2 a.m. and having to fix a bottle….  🙂

    I hope you are well.
