I know that people love to hear about Charlie, but today I’ll take a moment to brag on myself. The test scores are in!!! On the surface, there doesn’t appear to be a lot of change–very few of our kids changed levels. If you look closely, however, you’ll see that about 80% of our kids improved their score. Many of them improved their score by at least a 100 points. Two of my special ed kids went up a level as well! This is major since many kids drop when they get into seventh grade; the test gets a lot harder and many of them just can’t keep up with the material. So, today I celebrate–go me (and Mr. K)!
And I think I’ve devised my way to stay involved in teaching. I might be going back to school. I’m investigating a Master’s program in school administration. I’m not sure I’d ever want to be a principal, but a Master’s degree would make me worth more money, and I know it would be interesting. It’s too late to start in August, but I might be able to get my portfolio together enough to get in by January. We’ll see. . .
Which reminds me. . .it’s offical. The Hub and I will be moving to Lousiana next month. I’m amazed at how much my life has changed in such a short amount of time. We haven’t even put our house up for sale. We’re just going to see if it sells after we move, and live with our parents in the mean time.
For those who are interested, Charlie is doing really well. I promise to update lots about him in the days to come.

I will be the first to say, Welcome back to Louisiana! I am so happy to hear that little Charlie is doing
well and his mama also! FYI, I got a job in Jefferson P. and heard that if you get National Teachers Cert
they give you a 17,000 sign on bonus. if you are a sp ed teacher, it is 3,000. So, thought you might like
to check it out, I just was listening as others were discussing this….. Hang in there, and so happy to hear

Congrats on the test scores! We usually don\’t see ours in very late sept or oct. Go for the masters. Mine is in curriculum and instruction and after passing the state dossier and with my TESOL endorsement, I will be making $52,000.00 after only 10 years of teaching.
So glad to hear that Charlie is doing so welll. Yippeee…

Congrats Katy…on both counts!! Knowing that your students are being successful is very rewarding I know! That\’s great.
Being near family will probably be a huge help for you and wonderful for them to be able to love on Charlie (and you and Hub!) more often. Sounds like a win-win to me! Trust me, I am aware of how hard it is to be far from your family! Don\’t get me wrong, moving is a big pain and very stressful, but the pay off of being near family is worth it! Good luck. WooHoo – Congrats on the gresat score increase! I\’m sure that will look good on your resume also. I am so happy that you decided to go back to school. I have wished on and off for years that I could go back, but haven\’t been able to do so yet.

YAY!!! Going back for a Master\’s might be a good idea. But we all know you belong in a classroom–not in an admin\’s office…though good teachers may make the best admins…since they think with teacher brains. I\’m sure you\’ll be very happy back in LA. I hope your house sells soon–it isn\’t a seller\’s market right now, but maybe luck will be on your side. I am!

Sorry I haven\’t been by, I haven\’t been doing much visiting. I\’m sure that Charlie will be fine. He\’s got too many people praying for him. One thing that I wanted to suggest, it\’s in the Baby Book, is get a sling. I carried Conor around in one for the first year and half. I rarely used a stroller. Having Charlie next to you as much as possible, hearing your heartbeat, can only help him to improve. Whenever Conor was fussy, (he was a little colicky) I would put him in the sling, and run the vacumn. It would settle him down, and usually help him sleep. For a while I had the cleanest floors in town 🙂 Maya Sling has a website that you can order from.( I didn\’t look up the website address before I started typing, sorry) They also have the Maya Pouch. It\’s easier then the sling, but a little less versitile. I actually used the Pouch. Plus when you go shopping, you don\’t have to worry about keeping track of a stroller, or cart. Wearing your baby is one thing from the BABY BOOK that I highly recommend!

I hope you find a way to return to the classroom. Children need a teacher like you. In the years I taught I found that there are not enough teachers like you.
Being home is a big part of the battle. It is not easy to take each day as it comes, but in some instances one must. Charlie is in his own home and that in itself is a blessing.
When you get home to Louisiana your family will surround you and give you the help you need.
